- An information platform for marine conservation in the Tropical Eastern Pacific.
PACIFICO and its partners launched an information portal for marine and coastal conservation in the Tropical Eastern Pacific, at: http://www.conservapacifico.net.
The site provides a specialized information service, without charge, from any mobile device or computer connected to the internet. Tailored to the needs of the user, conservapacifico.net gives access to news, technical information, a database and tools relevant to the actors in coastal and marine conservation, whether researchers or decision makers.
Built on the principles of the semantic web, this platform also aims to add theoretical and practical knowledge, useful for the thematic areas, sites and conservation targets prioritized in the Research Strategy and its implementation plan (PACIFICO), which was developed through a participatory and technical process involving some 100 public and private organizations.
The site not only allows access to information about key species or sites of interest but also personalized tracking of statistics and tendencies in ecological and socioeconomic attributes at the country and regional level. Thus, the site aims to be key in the design of better policies and strategies for conservation and sustainable use of the marine-coastal resources of the Tropical Eastern Pacific.
